A uniform white landscape where temperatures during the few hours of daylight never climb above -18°C; a loner in charge of tracking the whereabouts of anyone venturing out; the disappearance of a couple of tourists from the Lower 48; and a hot cup (or two) of Tim Hortons coffee.
